Last Sacrifice Review!

SQUEEEEEEEEEE! Guys, every single thing about this book--and this series in general--was AMAZING! I absolutely adored the way Richelle decided to wrap things up and the direction she took Rose's story in.

I'm going to try and make sense of why I loved it, but be prepared for a lot of gushing. Also I plan to keep this review spoiler-free of Last Sacrifice info--as much as I can. But if you haven't finished reading the other five books, this MAY be spoiler-rific, and seriously--WHY are you readingg a review for the 6th book when you haven't read the first five--because you totally should do that. Right Now!

Ok, soooo top 5 reasons it rocked:

1. Last Sacrifice was Hilarious! I know that sounds odd considering it is a mostly dramatic series, but Richelle KNOWS how to mix the funny and the snark with the serious, and in Last Sacrifice she had her game on!

Examples! (Non-spoilerific--I hope!)

There was a look of woe on his face that was almost comical. Raids, bullets, criminals...no problem. A missing duster? Crisis.

I have it on good authority that Victor's going to have car trouble. Also that Robert really likes Cheerios, so if you want some, you're out of luck. He doesn't seem like the sharing type.

And I'll leave it at that because I don't want to give too much away, but out of all the Vampire Academy books, I was laughing the hardest at this one.

2. The Twists and Turns
I will just say that they NEVER stopped, up until the very last moment, Richelle takes you for a RIDE! And I was surprised. A lot!

3. The SWOON
I promise not to say ANYTHING about who she ends up with or anything that happens with Team Dimitri or Team Adrian, only that the SWOON factor was through the roof this time--I lost track of how many times I sighed.

4. The Action
Kind of a given, but it was Kick-butt!

5. The Character Development
The emotional arc of one character in particular was PERFECT (all were good, but one stood out) and I won't say who, but seriously, this was one of the best things she wrote and the pulling on my heart strings when this character fought to grow---OMG, I NEED to read Last Sacrifice again.

So as of right now...I think Last Sacrifice may be my favorite Vampire Academy novel, knocking down the unstoppable Shadow Kiss!

I can't say enough good things about Richelle and her writing and loving every minute of reading her books and GAH--just read it!

So yeah...stellar finish! I soooo can't wait for the spin-off series! And hey, I think I didn't spoil anything. Go me! Except yes, Robert likes Cheerios. Sorry about that.

  1. I loved it too! I read it yesterday and was thinking about it all day today. It's probably going to stick around in my head for a while. It's one of those books. And YES the twists: I did not see the final one coming AT ALL.

But your review made me really curious which character you think had the best emotional arc--do you mind giving a hint that will let me figure it out?

  2. @Sarah Anne Me too! I stayed up ridiculously late to finish reading it and then I couldn't sleep because I was thinking about it and it's been on my mind ALL day. And same for the final twist! WOWZA!

And this is for Sarah Anne's eyes only--or people who read the book--Dimitri! His struggle for redemption and to find love again just killed me--in a good way. ESPECIALLY chapter 15! OMG! It was the best!!!!

  4. Ooh this sounds really neat! :D I've realized that you have really good judgment when it comes to books, so this one MUST be awesome as you make it out to be. :) Thanks for sharing! I'll be looking out for it.

  5. [[[SPOILERS PLEASE DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T FINISHED]]]

I know! I loved watching Dimitri come full circle. You know, after SHADOW KISS, I really expected that Dimitri would somehow magically be able to override his Strigoi nature and love Rose anyway, because he was, you know, *speeeshul*. Then in the next one, when it slowly became obvious that he really was evil, at first I was annoyed because I wanted them to have their happily ever after, but then I thought about it and decided it was the smart story-telling move on Mead's part. It didn't break with the mythology of the world, and it made what had happened so much more important. And then she did it again, not taking the shortcut, when he was transformed back and everything didn't immediately go back to the way it was (like I was rooting for). Him being really, truly affected by what had happened made everything just so much dramatic and meaningful now that I can step back and look at it all. Do you know what I mean?

Sorry for my gushing--none of my friends have stumbled upon Vampire Academy yet so it's nice to be able to say all this!

  16. I really LOVED this book, except i felt the ending was seriously rushed and she could have EASILY made it into the 2 more books she promised earlier in the series on her website. i would love to know how everything worked out for rose and dimitri! i think the idea of her having a spin-off series sucks. they're never as good as the original and i think she could expand waaaaay more with rose and lissa's new lives! what do you think?
