I was opening up my copy of John Green's Paper Towns and suddenly found a tiny little post it note that a nerdfighter had put in there before I bought it telling me "hey, I bothered to leave you a secret message because this book is THAT awesome."
And it got me thinking...how fun would it be to write notes to anonymous strangers and leave them in my favorite books.
Everyone in the blogosphere is super passionate about promoting books and the publishing industry. And we do a kick-butt job if I may say so.
BUT, how often do we really reach out to the average person who doesn't check out blogger/goodreads/amazon reviews.
What about the people who just walk into a bookstore to see what they find? How can we gush to them about our favorite author?
Because you know I love me some gushing and sometimes you have to take it off the internets and into the real world.
So....I left a few notes...Shhhh!
I hid this inside a copy of Leila Sales' Mostly Good Girls.
Dear Reader,
If you love your friends and you love to laugh then read this book. It is perfect!
:-)
And inside a copy of Andrea Cremer's Nightshade...
Dear Reader,
This book is full of awesome--romance, suspense, passion. Buy it--I promise you won't be disappointed.
:-)
And I didn't get a decent picture but some unsuspecting person will be picking up a copy of Maggie Stiefvater's Lament and finding a little purple post it note that says this:
Dear Reader,
Take this book home tonight. Curl up with it and a cup of cocoa and you will be in love.
:-)
It's a small thing to do, but it's definitely bringing the fun :-)
What a great idea. I love this. I must try it.
ReplyDeleteYou rock.
Thanks, Christine, I'm going to try and do this on a regular basis, but I'll need to hit up lots of different stores so no one gets suspicious;)
ReplyDeleteWow, what a cool idea. Although, if I did something like that, people would assume it was a marketing ploy to sell more books. In fact, how do you know it WASN'T the bookseller who posted those secret notes?
ReplyDeleteYou can come post some in the store anytime. I won't tell anyone.
This is awesome, awesome! Great idea!
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of those notes that people sometimes leave in those post secret books--only this is cuter ;) I think I might leave a note or two in some of my local bookstores now.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic idea, I think I will have to do this when I go to a signing on Friday -- I would love to find something like that
ReplyDeleteThis is uber cool! I love it!
ReplyDeleteI *love* this idea! Very cool!
ReplyDeleteI think I'm going to do this! Then I can be like you and when people randomly shout out, "Does anyone have post-its??" I can answer, very nerdily, in the affirmative! :)
ReplyDeleteOh, Frankie, what complete and total awesomesauce! If I found one of those notes, I would sprint to the checkout line! You rock! :-)
ReplyDeleteLittle gestures like this are like the cherry on the icing on the cake of life.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a wonderful idea. And the little post-it note is lovely!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea, Frankie! I'm definitely going to try that now. I've wanted to do something similar before, but have always been afraid of getting caught by book salesmen or being accused of "vandalizing" books. D:

Thanks, guys! If you do it too, take some pictures!
ReplyDeleteI haven't done it yet, but I've thought about doing just exactly that! Just a little post it on a random page in the middle.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to put an email addy on there so someone can let me know they found the note because that's what I would like to do if I found one, but I'm not sure...
What an awesome idea! 'Course, me being me, I'd be leaving snarky notes, not nice ones. Dear Reader, Curl up with a bottle of wine and tissues, cuz this book is depressing. But awesome. Still awesome. Yeah.
ReplyDeleteOr something like that. :)
omg what an absolutely wonderful idea! I must do this. And now I want to read the books you recommended too ;D
