And you know what happens with a clear mind?
Plots, stories and character arcs!
A lot of writers say they get their best ideas in the shower, or a plot problem will solve itself there. I’ve definitely had my fair share of shower ideas…as well as car ideas---and WHOA---sometimes the ideas that come in the car are nuts and I have to pull over to the side of the road because…well writing while driving isn’t really recommended.
So I thought I’d share a few photos from my nature excursions—I’m completely obsessed with this one park near my house now. And I’m getting the best ideas from walking through. It's seriously beautiful--unfortunately, I only have my blackberry to capture shots--my camera is super dead.
I love seeing pathways like this--I love imagining where they lead.
This is my heaven right now.
What about you guys? Where did you get your best ideas and how do you calm your mind when it’s running like crazy with a bajillion thoughts?

Writing while driving? Pfft. I've banged out entire flash fiction stories on the road. (Note to ra polis: via dictation software, naturally.)
ReplyDeleteIn fact, when I have to travel for work, I often consciously set that time aside for brainstorming and thinking about my stories. I love long drive inspirations. :)
Also, nice park. We should picnic there. Like with writing groups and such. Yes.
Love the pictures- what park? And, kuddos to you for knowing how to upload from your blackberry to your blog...I have no clue how to do that. I'm very technically challenged. Anyway- I get my ideas while driving all the time. I tend to zone out (no worries, I've never been in an accident). But I agree, nature always helps get me unstuck.
ReplyDeleteI run away to a bookstore or cafe... but I'd prefer to sit around trees! There aren't any nice trails nearby that I know of, though over the weekend I was thrilled to discover a local park with giant trees within walking distance. How didn't I know about it before?! I suspect this will become a new refuge...
ReplyDeleteThose are some beautiful pics Frankie, thanks for sharing. The best writing inspiration I've ever had was while backpacking in Montana. Then again I wrote my novel in my cubicle, so you never know.
ReplyDeleteWalks by the ocean or through the woods often inspire me. I take lots of pictures too.
ReplyDeleteWow!!! this is GORGEOUS! Whew!
ReplyDeleteThe Other Frankie
I love your pictures! They make me think of a wonder land. Very inspiring!
ReplyDeleteAhh, I love nature trails! :) And you are right about them clearing your mind...being outside is just the thing I enjoy when I have too
ReplyDeletemuch on my mind.
I'm so jealous of you! I don't live in a remote area, but I don't have any place nearby that is as beautiful and captivating and, well, NATURAL, as that park.
Love the 2nd photo. Very "au natural," hehe.
Whenever I see pathways like that, I think of Robert Frost's "two roads diverge into a yellow wood, and I, I took the path less traveled by." :)
